Quilt of the Month

I'm starting something new in my Etsy shop to start cleaning out my inventory of quilts. It's called, "Quilt of the Month." Each month I will pick out one quilt from my shop and will either discount the quilt 20% or offer free shipping worldwide on it. Your choice. So basically, which ever way saves you the most money! :) This month April, (starting today- even though it's really the last day of March) I will be featuring my Urban S quilt. A big fav among Etsians. Lots of views on this one, tons of hearts. Now's your chance to get it at a great price if it's been on your favorite list for a bit.

This quilt measures 86"x 86" and is $370.00. With your discount, it takes the quilt price down to $296.00; a savings of $74.00. If you're in the United States then the 20% is obviously the choice for you since I can mail this quilt for $13.00. (Thank you flat rate shipping!) If you're outside the US you can convo or email me for a shipping quote. A bed sized quilt to send overseas can cost upwards of $60.00!

Decisions, decisions

Hello friends! Long time no talk! So sorry that I have been so very absent but this first trimester of pregnancy is taking a toll on me. I haven't sewn a lick in over 3 weeks. Which is totally abnormal since I usually sew about an hour a day! I have 2 quilts, a wall hanging, a table runner and table topper to bind and I haven't had any motivation whatsoever to do it.

I pretty much try and keep the house, play with my kids and nap whenever possible!
The weather here has started to get better (less rain, more sun) and Gavin almost has the garden ready to be planted. The ground work is all done he just needs to complete the fencing around it (to keep the chickens and deer and wandering cats out of it.) I am so overly anxious to get it all planted. I have all my seeds ready and a couple tomato plants on their way from Territorial. You just can't grow tomato from seed here- the growing season is just way too short and it simply isn't warm enough.
The kids and I have been playing outside a lot and enjoying the weather. Wyatt just mowed everything yesterday afternoon so our yards don't look like jungles anymore- thank heavens! The thought that has been running around in my head lately has been whether to keep my Etsy shop open. I wouldn't close it down permanently at this point, I just may stick in in vacation mode for a while. I keep thinking about how much I'm not sewing and how much time I will be spending in the garden and outside in general once summer hits. I have 2 quilts for Layton that are only half completed. I want to make a quilt for this new baby and I want to start and FINISH the quilt for our bed. I have a quilt to make for my new niece who is due at the end of July and one to make for a special someone for their birthday (I can't mention names because she/he reads this blog.) So all in all, I've got quite a bit of quilting to do just for myself let alone a quilt shop. I'm going to take some time to pray about it and see what the Lord tells me I need to do. I love my Etsy shop and have so much fun creating things for it. I love the buyers who come from all over the world to purchase quilts. I love the friends I have on my Quiltsy team. But maybe it's time for me to take a long break. I dunno. Decisions, decisions.

diapers- pee-u

Being pregnant obviously makes your senses more heightened. For instance, I can't stand the smell of coffee when I'm pregnant. With Layton it was cooking broccoli. With this baby it is unfortunately the smell of dirty diapers. Not helpful since I cloth diaper the kids- meaning I can't just wrap up the stinky and throw it away. Cleaning diapers yesterday almost made me dash for the toilet. Then I thought to myself- "Women have cloth diapered (in some way or another) their kids for hundreds of years and washed them when they were stinky- I can do this too!" Now, when I'm not pregnant, cleaning diapers is a cinch! But here's what I was thinking of asking Gavin to build for me..................

Do you think it's too extreme?

bright and cherry... i mean cheery

Here's a new table topper that I'll have in my Etsy shop soon. (Well, as soon as I get the binding on it.) I originally thought of meandering through it since, in my opinion, a meandering stitch looks good in anything but I decided just to go with the grid on this one since the top is busy enough as it is.
I used (surprise, surprise) Mary Engelbreit's, Recipe For Friendship collection from Moda to create it.
Sweet, little and cute. It will measure around 21" square. Great for your Spring table. Or, I guess, it could make a good lovey too. If you have little kids then they may make lovey's out of your table toppers anyway!

how does this thing work?

Timber got a wooden table and chairs for her first birthday. It's pretty much sitting in the middle of our living room since we have no room anywhere else. It is fun for the kids though to not sit at the kitchen table to color and play. Especially for Timber since she's not quite big enough to sit at the kitchen table like Layton is.
We got out the coloring books and Timber decided to try her hand. Layton is a master artist :) but Timber isn't quite sure yet how to actually use a crayon. It usually just ends up in her mouth and then she ends up with purple teeth..........mmmmmmmmmm.

new chicken

I don't think I've introduced our new chicken- actually he's a rooster. We got him from a friend who had a few too many roosters. We're keeping our fingers crossed that we'll be getting a few chicks out of this. We only have 4 hens right now and only 3 of them are laying. And even at that, they're laying like every other day. It's time for some new blood!
He's a pretty laid back rooster which is a good thing. From what we've seen so far, he doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body. That was a concern of mine with the babies tromping around and our chickens being "free range." Actually, he's pretty wimpy so I think he'll fit in just fine! :)

wow

I haven't blogged since last Friday! I guess I have an excuse though, my parents were here visiting and I just never had a chance to. Anywho, it seems as though I have scared a few folks with my "Tired" post from a week or two ago. Some thought I was having a mental breakdown or something so I thought I'd clear the air so that folks weren't too worried. Plus, my trip to the bank yesterday made me realize that although only a few family members new a week ago, now the entire town knows! Even good gossip spreads like wildfire in a small town.
Let's start with a few photos:

Here's the fam in 2006; I'm (really) pregnant with Layton

Here's the fam in 2007; I'm pregnant with Timber

Here's the fam 2008;I'm actually not pregnant!

Here's what the family will look like by this November (less the bike and goofy outfits)

Because I am pregnant!

If we keep this up I'll have to go from driving this:

So that's why I'm tired! :)

Timber's Birthday Dessert

We had a nice little dinner last night at home for Timber's 1st birthday. Here's the dessert that I made for it. I love this dessert because it is sooooooo good and has very little sugar in it! Plus it's super easy to make and great as a last minute desert since you start with frozen fruit.
Now, the original recipe called for dark sweet cherries but my family loves the blackberries that we pick down by the river. I freeze pounds and pounds of them and use them in this recipe through the winter.

Here we go:
BLACKBERRIES WITH CINNAMON DUMPLINGS

32oz of frozen blackberries (or cherries, or blueberries, or strawberries, or whatever kind of fruit you want!)
1/3 c sugar
1 c flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 c raw milk (or whatever milk you drink but preferably whole)

1tsp sugar plus some cinnamon mixed in to make a cinnamon-sugar topping

Combine the fruit and 1/3 c sugar in a large skillet. Bring to a boil over and simmer over med-high heat until syrupy- about 8-10 minutes.

While you're waiting for that to cook, combine the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl, stir in milk, mixing just until a wet dough forms.

Reduce heat to medium low and spoon big tablespoons of the dough over the simmering fruit.

Sprinkle your cinnamon-sugar topping over dumplings and cover skillet with a lid.

Simmer gently until dumplings are set and dry to the touch, about 10-12 minutes.

Serve with a little vanilla ice cream and enjoy!

Timber says "Mmmmmmmmmmmmm"

not "zero" anymore

My baby girl is one year old today! Gavin said happy birthday to Timber this morning and said, "You made it to 1. You're not 0 anymore!" :)
Here's a few (well, a lot) of shots from her first year!

tired

Well dear followers, I'm tired. I do realize that my blog has been lacking in the past week or so. I'm sorry. Hopefully I will be picking things back up again soon- then I can share the reason that I'm tired with all of you! For now, I'm going to go lay myself on the couch for a bit.
