the UPS man's tomatoes

We love our UPS man. We'll call him G. He comes by our house quite often. When you live near nothing, you shop online a lot. Especially for fabric. (Let's keep that between you and me though.)
When G drove up today I thought to myself, "Why is he here? I didn't order anything, did I?" I see him walk off his truck with a diapers.com box. Hm, o.k., I still don't remember ordering anything. I go outside to greet him and guess what he has for me? This...

He grows more tomatoes than they can eat so he figured he share the wealth. Sweet. And G and his wife just had a new baby boy, so that explains the diapers.com box.
Can you guess what I spent my day doing?
We are truly blessed in our community to have great friends!

What a blessing that was! You have the nicest UPS man. :) I don't know our UPS person, the man that was doing it isn't our local driver anymore. My dog hates that truck though and has a barking fit when it drives by.

Oh you are so lucky. Our garden did nothing this year and I have done only 6 quarts so far. Tomatoes are my mainstay for winter I guess I will need to go to the last farmers market.

I guess that is part of their plan, hiring pleasant, likable people. We are on our third UPS man in 32 years, and they have all been special to us. They stop by, when they are near the end of their route for the day, and just visit. It is so nice to have that kind of relationship with folks who serve the community. I'm sure they have some customers who are a real pain. Most delivery people are accustom to getting gifts from their customers, but you don't hear of them bringing gift that much. You do have a terrific fellow.

Wow, those are gorgeous tomatoes! We got some good ones from our garden this year, but not enough to put up. We just eat them as they are ready. Sometimes I'll pick a few and give them to our mailman George if I can catch him going by. It's nice to be friendly with your delivery people!

I bet you were doing a little bit of canning. What a blessing that was to show up on your doorstep.
My stepmom called last night to tell me she has canned a ton of pickles that she and my Dad won't be able to eat in 20 years. So guess what we are getting? I never turn down free food. With a big hubby and 2 teen boys, that would be crazy!
Have a blessed day, Heather.

And thanks for the tip about the fall-into-fall giveaway from your last post. Holy canolli, there are a ton of great giveaways going on!

You know what, Heather? I'd rather live in community than neighborhood any day!

We love G too! I don't order much online, so usually he stops by empty handed just to visit. But he got a good laugh when he delivered the last batch of stain for our house...it was marked "Leave on porch". Hmmm...haven't really gotten to that part of the house yet!

That is SO precious! Aren't fabulous people in our lives the icing on the cake? Or the heat in the salsa? Or the mayo on the tomato sandwich? :D

What a wonderful blessing!
OUr oldles (16 years) volunteered at the farm to school fundraiser last Sunday night and ended up coming home with an untouched pork roast (organic too.)
So many blessings.

How wonderful! In our previous house, our mailman was the same. She always wanted to know what was in my squishy packages when I ordered cloth diapers and such.
