being neighborly

We have some neighbors behind us that moved in about 2 years ago. The husband and wife are both teachers and they have 3 kids. The wife just started gardening last year and I was happy to share some tips with her. That garden started our "swap." We would bring them extra food from our garden and they'd come up with something from their home to bring to us. Christmas time was full of swapping fun goodies. We share eggs with our neighbors and a few weeks ago I made more bread than we could consume in a day or two so Wyatt took a loaf, fresh out of the oven, over to them. Who doesn't love fresh baked bread? The wife then sent this over the other day with a nice thank you note. Nothing is necessarily expected for the giving, it's not mandatory to give back. We just enjoy doing it.

It feels so natural and good to be neighborly. Do you have neighbors that you share with? If not, then this month as we experiment with bread making, may be the perfect time to start. Bake a loaf and take it over to a neighbor in need or one you haven't had the pleasure of getting to know yet.

It's so great to be able to do this! We have some neighbors that we do favors for and they help us out when we need it. I love it! Also, a couple of weeks ago, we had a yard sale. The "stuff" that didn't sell, I stored under tarps outside with the intention of trying to sell it again. But our seem to be rainy lately. Today, I decided to put it all out with a free sign. I just had a newly married couple stop and take a lot of things that they needed. It felt so good to be able to share. They couldn't thank me enough and asked if they could pay me something. I just asked them to do the same for someone else someday. Pay if forward is a great concept :) Doesn't it feel good to be able to help? I definitely think so - and I know in my heart it's the right thing to do.

sounds like you have such a nice relationship with your neighbors. we have many that are nice here but not that close. sharing bread is a great gesture...good idea. if i can muster the energy to bake it then i will go share it too

yes, we have neighbors we share with. I make bread and other baked goods and give to them and they've shared delicious jellies and cider and things with us. It is a lovely gesture and it's really a great thing to teach the children.

Isn't that fun? We do that with our neighbors too. I love being able to bless them with something from our home whether it be jam, homemade bread or Rhubarb from the garden. And it's fun to recieve goodies too (not expected but a blessing too!)

Have a blessed weekend!

Loved this post!! We don't have any neighbors in the neighborhood that we do that with, but since it's a rather small town, we do have a few friends we share with. I also always bake goodies for friends & the people that work for Hubba, esp. at Christmastime.

I also have neighbors like them. Us wives will share recipes, ingredients or foods. The husbands share knowledge about repairing stuffs and tools. Even our children are doing well playing at each others backyard. Thank you so much for sharing. I also agree to Sandra that good neighbors are a gift that we should treasure and enjoy.
