fiddlesticks

It's cold. The soil is cold. I've been tracking it for the past few days and this morning it was 42 degrees. Barely even warm enough to germinate peas let alone anything else!

We tried a little experiment last night though. By laying a thick layer of grass clippings over a 2 foot square area in the garden we were able to take a soil temp reading this morning that was far better than hoped. It was almost 50 degrees. 8 degrees warmer than the non covered soil! The outside temp this morning was 37 degrees so 50 degrees aint all that bad.
I'll continue tracking for the next few days to see what will happen. I'm chitting my peas right now so they will be ready to plant in the ground by Monday or Tuesday.
