how difficult is knitting?

As if I need another hobby. I haven't even been sewing! I've been thinking of knitting though lately. A knitting group at our church is starting this weekend! The thought has crossed my mind a time or two but should I really do it???
I found a pattern for these little dolls today and I SO want to make them for Timber. For you knitters that know- do they look difficult? Would they be too much for a first time project? If it helps any, the first quilt I ever made was a queen sized one. And the pattern was intermediate. The woman (and friend) who taught me to quilt was like, "Um, do you want to start with a wall hanging instead?" No way Jose! Go big or go home.
Any advise would be welcome!

fiddlesticks

It's cold. The soil is cold. I've been tracking it for the past few days and this morning it was 42 degrees. Barely even warm enough to germinate peas let alone anything else!

We tried a little experiment last night though. By laying a thick layer of grass clippings over a 2 foot square area in the garden we were able to take a soil temp reading this morning that was far better than hoped. It was almost 50 degrees. 8 degrees warmer than the non covered soil! The outside temp this morning was 37 degrees so 50 degrees aint all that bad.
I'll continue tracking for the next few days to see what will happen. I'm chitting my peas right now so they will be ready to plant in the ground by Monday or Tuesday.

couldn't resist

Well, it's raining today and it's supposed to rain all of next week. So much for planting seed. In my opinion, it is still a little early but Gavin is positive that we can plant now because he was by Open Air Farms yesterday dumping a load of wood chips and they have corn growing- already!! I don't know how they did it but apparently they did. I still am not convinced it's time. I'm going to buy a soil thermometer today to watch the ground for a week or so first.
And since there is no planting to be done, there is still shopping on Etsy to be done.....right? :) Lookie what I got Timber today- soooooooo sweet.
