We had family here visiting for a week and they left yesterday. We are getting an area ready for our weaner pigs that will be here right after fair time. Wyatt and I are browsing the fair book to see what categories we want to enter this year. Gavin's work has increased so much that he has been working a couple of Saturdays and later in the evening during the week. Summer time is always our busiest time of the year for the tree service and like the old saying says, we "Make hay while the sun shines!" Winter is slow, so a busy summer (and provisions from the Lord above) get us through our winters.
Our honey bees (the ones that live in a tree on our property) were splitting (the hive, not the bees themselves!) and swarming so Gavin built another bee house and placed it up another tree for the branch of the hive to move into if they so choose. The grass always needs moving, the garden needs weeding and fertilizing, and just about everything else needs done. Mason is just starting solids (he'll be 8mo old this coming Monday) and I've been busy making different baby foods. The count so far: thumbs up on the applesauce and pears, thumbs down on the zucchini. Next week we'll be starting liver and avocados.
This weekend is the 4th and we'll be enjoying the parade in town and fireworks at the beach. I hope that you enjoy the rest of your week and have a safe and blessed 4th of July! I look forward to meeting with you soon to start our look at soap making!

Happy 4th of July to you...the photos of the baby and the little boy are just precious!!! I'm interested in making soap. A friend of mine is going to try making handmade soap soon!!! I look forward to that when you have the post ready :) :) Have a great 4th of July weekend!! Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)
Oh, boy! Soap. Can't wait. Those two children are absolutely adorable! Happy 4th!~karen
I'm looking forward to the soap lessons! Hope your bees migrate to the new hive! I'm thinking of putting mine out in the yard to see if I have any takers - very doubtful, but I can always just enjoy the hive and get it ready for next year.
Have a blessed 4th!
i made soap once before with some friends and i would love to do it again but i am so needing a tutorial. can't wait to see those posts...
Happy 4th of July to you & your family! I really enjoyed the breadmaking - have been baking a new yummy loaf every other day. I am excited for the upcoming soapmaking posts :)
I look forward to your upcoming posts on soap making. I've become frustrated enough trying to find simple, plain soap that is affordable, that I guess I really need to learn to make my own.
Such darling children! Hope the liver goes well! :)
I'm looking forward to soap month! I love homemade soap. Maybe I'll try my hand at making it.
What a sweet picture of Mason! Wow, he is growing!!
Enjoy your 4th. We are taking off tomorrow for my in-laws lake house.
I remember the summer months for our logging business...it was almost a relief for the rains to come back!
I've never made soap before, so I'm looking forward to your tutorial!
Have a wonderful 4th!!
life on the homestead sure sounds good
Didn't know you did bees! Thats my project for next summer! I'll need a "Bee month" blog.
We've had them for a year now. They live up in a Spruce tree on the property. Gavin had built a squirrel house that they invaded and made a home! :) Not sure if they've moved into the second home yet. I'll have to check the box!
Happy 4th to you & your sweet family. Love the pic of little Mason. Would just love to kiss his rosy cheeks. Looking forward to your blogging about the soap! Hey, Heather I bought a Gammill!
